Today we're chatting Enforcer 89. The new 2025 Enforcer collection is interesting as the skis change in different ways. Rather than being able to make a blanket statement about how the new line compares to the previous generation, each width has its own differences in comparison to the older skis. Enjoy! Pow Mow going corporate is not a benefit to the average skier. Pass prices have already increased quite a bit. Access is more limited (idc how they try to spin it) Overcrowding is not an issue at this resort. It's another example of a corporation buying a business and trying to squeeze every single dollar out of it. The industry is not really competing in a free market. Opening a new resort requires permits from the government, which atr very difficult to get approved. Plus, something tells me the only way you could possibly get it approved, is if you already have a whole bunch of money and are playing the game in Washington... think about the size of the USA vs Europe. The # or ski resorts per square mile is not even close. They both have similar amounts of total area. (3.5 to 4 million sq. Miles) United States has around 300 resorts...Europe ~3000😅😅😅 Germany alone has 400+!!!

    How would it compare to say Anomoly 84. I know you have talked about it in comparison to Anomoly 88 but trying to decide how to build out my quiver in the 80s section. I already have the new 2025 enforcer 94 and 104 (fan boy or Nordica) but think that the Enforcer 89 might have to much overlap with the Enforcer 94, making me think Anomoly 84 might be a good addition to my quiver

    Any suggestions? Need new powder ski for upcoming winter trips. For global travel. Japan. Canada. France. Cat skiing, lift access, boot packing etc. I currently Have black crows serpo and corvus, love both, but want something less direct as an option also. Mainly for big pow days, but nothing stupid wide. Thinking twin tip. Have tried the BC 110 loved it! Also tried the fisher mfree, also fun. Would be happy on either. Any other options around or between these two?. Ie the rossignol sender is a mix of those two? I'm 172cm tall, 80kgs. Happy with the corvus for when I can get fresh open lines (Soo much fun!) and 2 day old chop.and the serpo is a great resort ski. So looking for something a bit different, wider. Will take 3x pairs on any trip i take.

    So I got this ski last year and have used it in 2ft storm, bumps, and groomers, love it. Most versatile ski I own, it’s my go to ski. A bit tough to handle in bumps if you like to jam the tips straight at the bump the ski is stiff and heavy but I keep using it and it’s the 1 ski I would take to the mtn if I only had 1. Mounting point forward has helped initiation.

    I'm stuck between the Fischer Ranger 102 and the Blizzard Rustler 10, but leaning toward Rustler ...I'm an upper advanced skier in Whistler area that spends 60/40 off/one piste ...6'1"/195lbs ...help?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      Personally I think the Rustler beats the heck out of the Ranger. I know some skiers may feel differently, but the Rustler is a stronger ski from tip to tail while retaining a lot of soft snow playfulness and creativity. In my experience, the Rustler is better at every component of skiing. I'd say you could go 186 if you're okay with slightly longer skis.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      While the widths are somewhat similar, that's kind of where the similarities end--these are different enough skis to have both. The Playmakers are a ton of fun with a creative tail and better soft snow and tree skiing capabilities. Park, too, if you're interested in more freestyle-oriented skiing.

    I felt like Jeff hand flexing that ski. Enforcer 88 skier (probably 150 days on it) and like it off piste but I want to replace it with something not as demanding. I have narrow skis for hard snow days in VT and my knees are not what they were 5 years ago. It's looking more like I'm going Anomaly 88, Mindbender 89 Ti or possibly Maverick 88 TI. Basin should have demos ;)

  • @carterfan80

    I would like to see Nordica do something a little different. I'd like to see their take on a lighter more playful ski (i.e. Blaze , Ripstick etc) I may check out the Santa ana, even though I'm a male..

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      It's difficult to find Santa Ana skis in the 179 length for demo, so we haven't gotten on them yet, but I think you're onto something here, especially with the new builds of the ski. I think a Santa Ana 92 or 97 in the 179 would be a total blast given how we feel about the Unleashed 98's.

    • @carterfan80
      @carterfan80 2 дня назад

      Luckily I'm short. I can ski something around 170ish!😅 I'll have my choice of all the Santa anna's, and usually the long ones are cheaper when they're on sale! HALF of my quiver are women's skis at this point. They're always a better price🤑🤑🤑

  • @carterfan80

    You say they flip-flopsed... Does that mean the new blizzard feels more like the old Enforcer than the 25' enforcer?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      I'd say slightly, but the Anomaly feels like a totally different ski than either Enforcer. Maybe you could argue that the Enforcer 88 and the Anomaly have more in common in an off-piste situation, but the Anomaly is still more versatile--far more pleasant in bumps, trees, and soft snow while still being a prime carver.

    • @carterfan80

    I’ve been watching all your reviews, great content. Thank you! I’ve been torn between a few different skis. I always ski with my kids so northeast groomers are a huge focus. I’ve considered the rustler 9’s, ripstick 88, 96, and 96 black. Low end intermediate. Given the conditions I ski a ripstick 88 is a good bet but at my weight (250-260) would a 96 or 96 black better support me carving NE trails?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      Yes, the slightly wider skis in your group will provide better support. I do think the Rustler 9 is a great choice if you already have the Ripstick 88. The metal in the Rustler is very supportive, not heavy or demanding. I'd lean that way.

    What is more appropriate for an intermediate skier: Peregrine 82, Montero AX or Anomaly 84? Is Peregrine 82 good for an intermediate skier hoping to progress? It should allow skidding turns and mistakes. I live in European alps, so it should handle ice to slush (with bumps) snow conditions during the same day, but mostly on piste (for powder I will take snowboard). I am a snowboarder moving (partially) to ski, now doing about 10-15 days skiing and 10 days snowboarding per season, will be the 3rd season on ski. Thanks!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      I'd go with the Montero AX due to the slightly more flexible shovel. The other skis are on the stiffer side overall and may not provide the latitude you're looking for when it comes to mistakes. Also, they're incredibly smooth and awesome skis overall.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 3 дня назад

      The big difference is in the camber profile. The Arcade 84 has considerably more camber and less taper than the Experience. By shaping a ski this way, it's more engaged in the turn from tip to tail. The Experience probably is more smooth and powerful overall due to having more metal, but the Arcade is considerably poppier and more energetic due to that camber. Both skis will get you what you need, but if you're looking for better rebound, the Arcade is the way to go.

    Always so interesting to follow your investigations. So thanks a bunch for your detailed considerations on these new Enforcer models. My question to you, today I'm driving a Deacon 84 and planning to go for the Kendo 88 additionally. I drove the Nordica Fire Arrow 84 over years and you may remember how stiff these planks are, so the Deacon is clearly the relaxing alternative. Is the Enforcer 89 comparable to the Kendo 88? Considering as well that I bring min. 125kg on the snow without ski's, thus some stiffness might be mandatory to put the 'forces' on the ground. Main application is on groomed slopes (in the afternoon)! What would you prefer?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 4 дня назад

      What's interesting about the Kendo is that it uses a lot of sophistication and creativity in the build. Not everyone likes the "frame" build as it leaves gaps in the metal laminates throughout the ski. The Enforcer is more dense, both from a physical sense and an engineering one--it's a simpler build for sure. I think if you're at 125kg and are looking to stay on groomers, you may prefer that feeling over the precision of the Kendo.

    with an 18m turn radius the 89 sounds like my 2016 stormrider 88 with a 19m turn radius.. my 88 has a window of when they start opening up the rest of the mountain and it is still below freezing.. once it starts getting above freezing i like using wider skis.. if it is early season with not much of the hill open and a ton of skiers it is literally no fun to ski on the ski.. i even snowplow in really congested areas.. those skis are 177-180 cm... my old race skis are are 70mm x 170cm with an 18m turn radius.. i will probably ski on those early season.. i have been thinking about getting some Laser or Montero but i would probably get them in a 170cm length so that i can avoid all of the people.. if they get snow early season i will probably use my DPS 100mm with a 15m turn radius.. it still takes a ton of effort if there is a ton of people to avoid..

    2022 Storm Rider 88 vs Anomaly 88 & Enforcer 89?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 4 дня назад

      Stormrider 88 is a good one--lighter than both Anomaly and Enforcer by a good margin and considerably more flexible in the tip. The tail is still stiff and flat, so the Stockli holds on to the turn equally as well as the other two. While the top end of the carving performance still goes to the Enforcer, the Stockli does most of what the others can do, at a much quieter din. It's the lack of sound that makes the Stormrider so appealing.

    I picked up the 88 this spring for a great price and it quickly became maybe my favorite ski for everything under 6 inches of snow. That tip rocker/flexibility makes it kind of playful and I don't find it difficult off piste, disappointed in the changes for the 89. I think it lost the versatility that made it special.

    Thanks guys. The new one actually sounds like it bridges the difference between my old Enf 88s and Brahmas. So now better turn initiation and longer effective edge, while retaining the soft snow friendly tips and shape that the Enfs always had. Sounds awesome to me. Updated Declivity 82ti/92ti review next please.

    How does it ski compared to the Anamoly 88? I’ve skied a Brahma and Bonafide for years and looking to replace both with a new front side ski?

    • @bearclaw5115
      @bearclaw5115 4 дня назад

      Sounds like the Anamoly 88 is more forgiving and versatile and the Enforcer 89 is more locked into carving turns.

    • @GLDNTRT
      @GLDNTRT 4 дня назад

      @@bearclaw5115 that was my take too. Lots of great options to choose from in 2025. With some Rustler 10’s as my all mountain free ride ski I think I’d lean towards the Enforcer 89s.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 4 дня назад

      @bearclaw5115 has it right--although I wouldn't say the Anomaly is forgiving in a flexible sense--it's right there with Enforcer for just hand-flexing stiffness. The rocker profile and slightly lighter weight add to the forgiving nature creating that versatility. But yes, the Enforcer is more locked in and requires more attention on the part of the skier. The Enforcer 89 will offer a greater difference from your Rustler 10 than the Anomaly will.

    Is the new optic 88 close to filling the void of the missing narrower metal built unleashed? Exciting that someone is making a narrower metal laminate twin

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 4 дня назад

      Oooh, this is a good one and we totally forgot to mention it. I feel like you're right on the mark here. If you haven't skied it, make it a top priority, and this is an excellent call on your part with that Optic 88 filling that void. Bonus, it also comes in a 185 which sub-90 mm twins rarely do anymore. Very similar experience as Unleashed in terms of fantastic carving performance, energy, and edge grip. Also longer rocker than Unleashed so mixes in soft snow with a sense of ease. I was very impressed with the Optic 88.

    Thanks for the review guys! I'm currently on the 2024 Blaze 94. I wonder how the new 94 and 104 compares to the Blizzard Ruslter 10. Any insight?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 4 дня назад

      There's more pep and tail energy out of the Blaze than the Rustler. Most of the Rustler's power is found in the central portion especially at higher edge angles. I prefer the pivoty feel of the Rustler in softer snow, mainly because it's more confidence-inspiring. I still don't totally trust the Blaze 104 when it comes to softer snow as it is still on the lighter and less stable side.

    Most locals say Alta as in altitude. However, if it is named after Alta Badia in Italy it would be the other pronunciation.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 5 дней назад

      I think I still have the Italy pronunciation stuck in my head. Also, since I'm of French-Canadian descent, I pronounce Aunt with the U rather than the Americanized "Ant" so that may trip me up as well.

    How does does Ripstick 88 compare to the Wingman 89CTI? I ski on Blizzard 2016/17 Brahma 88's 180cm and I may be looking at new skis. TIA

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 5 дней назад

      Assuming you're meaning the Wingman 86 CTi... The Ripstick is considerably more flexible and versatile from an all-mountain perspective. I love the Wingman on groomers, but it's a handful if you get it off-trail or in any soft snow--it's just so precise and sharp. The Ripstick is one of the easiest and quickest skis out there--it goes exactly where you want instantly with no complaints. I love the mogul and tree performance, and for me, the on-trail carving is actually surprisingly good considering the light weight. If you're looking for more similar to Brahma, I do think the Wingman fits that description. If you want something more versatile and better in softer snow and mixed terrain, Ripstick is key.

    Guys, I love that you’ve added a “comparisons” section at the end. Contrasting a given ski against the comparable skis in its class is the most helpful way to understand what the ski does. If anything, it would be great to spend even more time doing it!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 5 дней назад

      Yes, it does seem to help kind of wrap things up as well. We want to be slightly careful, though, if you've watched any of our 2-hour comparison videos, it can kind of go off the rails if we're not paying attention!

    hello I'm look at the stranger vs the bent100, thoughts?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 6 дней назад

      Stranger lives up to its name. It's a weird ski. That said, I really like weird skis and the Stranger is one that I consider getting for myself. It's heavier than the Bent and has a much shorter turn radius. It also tops out at 180, so if you're looking for longer, that's something to consider. I personally love the idea of a wide twin with a short radius and a sturdy feel--that's what the Stranger is. I skied it during an industry demo at Pico here in Vermont and did not want to give it back--so fun in bumps and trees and then lays down sick carves on groomers when you pop out--totally my style of ski. The Bent is great, but lighter, with a longer radius, and not quite as interesting.

    I’m looking to replace my old Stormrider 88s with a narrower ski that’s more stable when skiing faster through variable conditions all over the mountain, but not as punishing as the Brahma, which I thought was too much ski for a daily driver (to be used on lower snow days out west). These seem just about perfect?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 6 дней назад

      Totally, other than this 88 being narrower than your Stormrider 88. Check out the Anomaly 84 if you want this type of ski in a slightly narrower format.

    I love the review. I obviously will want to try before I buy. I ski at Smuggs and currently ski RTM 81. I am looking for a little more flex and a little lighter. What do you think about the Anomaly 84 or Pregrine 82. What are the differences

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials 6 дней назад

      The Anomaly is a little heavier and a little stiffer, so I'm not sure that fits your process. Peregrine 80 is the one to focus on here. The 82 is similar weight and style, but stiffer than the RTM 81. While expensive, the Stockli Montero AX at 80 mm is more flexible than you may think in the shovel--that's worth a look if possible. A bit wider, also check out the Salomon Stance 84.
